The Fearless podcast is out

Published by Macey Shofroth on

We are excited to announce our Fearless podcast has officially launched!

Fearless is a statewide initiative with a goal to empower Iowa women to succeed in work and life. We are strong believers that women’s issues are everyone’s issues, and we aim to cover gender equity with an inviting and intersectional approach. Bringing Fearless to streaming allows us to share these stories with even more people in a format that they can access anywhere.

Emily and I are joined by our co-host, LaDrina Wilson, a leadership coach who lives in the Quad Cities. LaDrina is the founder and CEO of IMAN Consulting and earned her Ph.D. in educational leadership at Iowa State University. If you attended the Fearless Forward event, you’ll recognize her from the stretch exercise she led us through.

We want our podcast content to reflect your needs, so we’d love your input on the stories we should cover and the people we should feature. You can fill out this form if you’d like to send us an idea.

You can find the Fearless podcast, as well as BPC’s other recently launched podcasts, at this website.

Our first three episodes are now live. Here’s what you’ll find in each:

Episode 1: Introducing: Fearless

Introducing Fearless, the podcast where we share stories that empower women and work in life. Meet hosts Emily Wood, LaDrina Wilson and Macey Shofroth, and see what you can expect in future episodes.

Episode 2: The Lonely Only

In this episode, we explore a question submitted by a Fearless reader: “I’d like advice for women to gain respect and authority when comments are made that they are the only female in the room of males, they are young (at least 15-20 years younger than anyone else in the room), or that the person that they are speaking to makes a comment like ‘I’m probably older than your dad.’” LaDrina and Macey are joined by Saloni Patel, an architect from the Quad Cities, and Perlla Deluca, owner and CEO of Southeast Constructors, co-founder of the Iowa School of Construction and founder of the Pink Hardhat Foundation.

Episode 3: Our Complex Identities

There are certain things people notice when we first walk into a room, like the way we dress, the color of our skin or the shape of our body. These markers of our identity are in constant conversation with the world. In this episode of Fearless, we talk with Nola Cartmill, chief diversity officer and legal counsel at Holmes Murphy, Sylvia Nemmers, environmental science department chair at American Public University System, and Abi Reiland, president of commercial real estate at Sara Hopkins, about how our complex identities affect how we navigate through the world.

We are so excited to share this project with you. Let us know what you think!
